Starting off 1949 is a set of 3 semi-postal stamps to raise money for rebuilding public libraries. A single imperforate souvenir sheet was released to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the UPU (Universal Postal Union) and depicts the UPU Monument in Bern, Switzerland. The Philippines joined the UPU on 1st January 1922. Stamps to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the UPU were also produced in perforate form with the same design as those on the souvenir sheet. General Gregorio del Pilar a.k.a “The Boy General”, one of Aguinaldo’s youngest generals is celebrated on two postage stamps released on the 50th anniversary of his death. Gregorio launched multiple successful attacks on the Spanish during the Philippine Revolution only to lose his life in the Philippine-American war – taking his last stand at the Battle of Tirad Pass. He was 24 years old when he died.
