13 stamps were released in 1951 including 2 x semi-postal stamps, a single stamp for official use and a single airmail stamp.
The first Pan Asian Philatelic Exhibition (PANAPEX) was held in Manila from 16th-22nd November, 1952. Seeing the importance of the exhibition then president Quezon declared 16th-22nd November as National Philatelic Week via proclamation 342. 3 x stamps were released to commemorate PANAPEX, 2 x regular postage and 1 x air mail stamp. A reproduction of a photo of Jose Rizal’s cousin (Leonor Rivera) was used as the main design for the stamp. Leonor was not only Rizal’s cousin but his first love, child-hood sweetheart and at one point his fiancé (though in secret). She was immortalized as “Maria Clara” in two of his novels Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo. “A letter from Rizal” is printed on the stamps referring to the secretive correspondence that the two kept up.
No stamps from this year should present a challenge to the collector.
